Hampshire & Dorset Wedding Magazine – Ask the Expert

The latest copy of Your Hampshire and Dorset Wedding Magazine has hit the shelves and, as one of their industry experts, I was asked to answer a reader’s question on ‘Planning Ahead’.

I just got engaged and need to plan our wedding within a year.  Apart from hiring a wedding planner to help us organise the day, do you have any practical tips and advice on how we can make planning the big day easier for us both?

Set your priorities and your budget. I would suggest sitting down with your partner to discuss the style of wedding you would like and can afford.  Think about the size of your guest list and possible dates to get married.  Setting priorities and establishing your budget early on will help keep you focused.

Research and secure suppliers. Start researching suppliers within your price range.  There are lots of ways to do this from visiting wedding fairs and searching wedding directories to reading wedding magazines and blogs.  Don’t forget to ask family and friends for recommendations.  Do bear in mind that suppliers get booked up well in advance.

Get organised. A good way to do this is to buy a folder in which you can keep all your important wedding documentation.  Create a list of things that need to be done and start a timeline of events.  Keep track of your RSVPs with information such as dietary requirements.
