Dorset Wedding Venue – Lorton House

Posted on August 22, 2011

Lorton House caught my attention earlier this year when I was asked to help coordinate Sabrina and Adam’s wedding there.  Set in 16 acres bordering nature reserves and with views across Weymouth Bay and the Isle of Portland, this Victorian country house makes the perfect backdrop for wedding celebrations.

The house itself can accommodate 16 people in eight newly decorated bedrooms over two floors and is an ideal base for the bridal party.  Additional accommodation can also be found in the Coach House.

The grand entrance hall sets the tone of this warm and welcoming house with its original tiles and wooden staircase.  Leading off from the entrance hall, there is a large farmhouse kitchen/breakfast room complete with a four oven Aga, a light and airy drawing room with an open fire and French windows which open out onto the extensive gardens, a cosy library and a formal dining room.  The dining room can seat up to 18 people and would be ideal for an intimate wedding.

For larger weddings, a marquee can be erected on the lawn in front of the house, overlooking nature reserves to the sea.  Also outside is a large patio perfect for hosting the cocktail hour, a pretty gazebo and ample parking for guests.

Here at RSVP Wedding, we have no hesitation in recommending this hidden gem.  The house is available to hire from £1500 for a weekend (4pm Friday to 10am Monday).  For more information and pictures, please visit www.lortonhouse.co.uk.
