Hampshire & Dorset Wedding Magazine – Ask the Expert

Posted on December 20, 2010

Earlier this month, I was delighted to receive a call from Your Hampshire and Dorset Wedding Magazine asking me to join their panel of experts in answering questions posed by their readers on a range of wedding topics.  In the January/February issue (out now) I answered the following question on catering:

My fiancé and I have our hearts set on a venue which has its own in-house caterers.  The problem is that they are quite expensive.  Are there any ways in which we can try and save money on the food and drink?

First of all, consider the size of your guest list.  Inviting a few less people will help offset higher catering costs.  If this is not an option, you could think about having your ceremony later in the day so that you reduce the amount of food and drink required.  Another popular way to save money is by serving the wedding cake in place of a dessert.  You could also ask about supplying your own alcohol.  Most venues will charge for corkage but this could still save you money.  Remember that venues are more likely to be flexible if your wedding is mid-week or at less popular times of the year.

If there is anything you would like to ask me, email it to suzanne@rsvpwedding.co.uk and I will post your questions and answers here on our blog.

I look forward to hearing from you.
